ANNUNCIATION GREEK ORTHODOX CHURCH ANNOUNCES GREEKFEST 2020 CANCELLATION
State Fair Grounds, Home to the Festival, is Unavailable Due to
FEMA Use of Grounds for Medical Treatment of Those Stricken by Virus
Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church has announced the cancellation of the 55th annual GreekFest 2020 because the State Fair Park Grounds will be unavailable due to the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s need to use the grounds as a makeshift hospital for those stricken by Covid-19.
GreekFest, once named “Best Church Festival” by Milwaukee’s Shepherd Express, was to be held June 19-21 at State Fair Park, but State Fair officials could not guarantee the availability of the grounds due to FEMA’s needs.
During this much needed fundraiser, our church family enjoys sharing Greek culture, food, music and the history of both Annunciation and the Orthodox faith. But these are extraordinary times, and Annunciation fully understands and supports the need to treat the sick.
“In addition to our fervent prayer for all those directly and indirectly affected by Covid-19, as well as the selfless medical care and service workers, our Annunciation Parish family is committed to doing everything we can to participate in the joint effort to restore life back to normal in our beloved Milwaukee community and beyond,” said Father Ciprian Sas, Parish Priest of Annunciation.
Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, located at 9400 W. Congress St. in Wauwatosa, is one of the 10 oldest Greek Orthodox congregations in the U.S. The church is well-known for its unique design by architect Frank Lloyd Wright, opened at its current site in 1961.
