Sunday School

Purpose/Mission Statement:
To teach the youth of our parish the basics about the Word of God.  The Archdiocese Curriculum and Texts are used supplemented with Back to Basics objectives.

Time Commitment:
Students attend the Sunday Divine Liturgy weekly. Following HOLY COMMUNION, students attend their classes in the Cultural Center.

Membership:
Pre-kindergarten begins at age 4 through 12th grade.  The Sunday School is always in need of dedicated teachers.

Activities:
Sunday School begins the second Sunday in September and runs through the last Sunday in May.

St. Nicholas Gift Project – Children bring a wrapped Christmas gift to Church and place it on the Solea after Liturgy.  These gifts are donated to local shelters and community homes where children do not get presents for Christmas.

Christmas Pageant – Held the Sunday before Christmas.  All Sunday School classes participate as actors, singers and/or readers.  Most dress up in costumes.

Godparent Sunday – Children invite their Godparents to sit with them in Church and receive Holy Communion together as a spiritual family.

Sunday of Orthodoxy – Children bring icons from home and walk around the Church in the procession with the Clergy and Altarboys to celebrate the Sunday of Orthodoxy.

The children participate in the Heretismi (Lenten Friday Evening Salutations) by reading the Aspile and Ke dos Imin prayers to the Virgin Mary and to Christ.  On the Saturday of Lazarus the children gather to help make the Palm Crosses that are to be given out on Palm Sunday.  Also the children and attend and participate throughout Holy Week, especially on Good Friday as they lead the Holy Epitaphion in the Procession outside the Church.  The Pascha Agape Service is also a blessing for our children.
